Why is Cryptozoology still around today?
Have you every asked why people still believe in Big Foot? Or still go and look for the Loch Ness Monster?
Have you every felt unsafe? Maybe walking to your car at night or going through the woods alone. Have you even experienced things that you cannot explain? Like maybe you set a book down two seconds ago, then it suddenly is across the room? No one likes the feeling of being unsafe. Not knowing what is going on around them freaks people out and startles them. The situation is out of their control. The best way for people to feel in control of a situation is to know what is happening. So, when our eyes cannot see a reasonable explanation to a situation, our minds fill in the gaps. People will do crazy things to try and feel in control. They will travel across the world to try and find the home of a monster that lives in a foreign country. They will camp out for weeks trying to lay eyes on a half man- half beast. Once people start to get a grasp of safety and understanding, they form an emotion attachment.

Cryptozoology has been carried on through the ages because it gives people a sense of safety, control, and understanding. Once people have an answer, they will be very reluctant to let that answer go. No one likes to admit that they were wrong or give up trying to reach an answer. So, the next time you call someone a "freak" or "weirdo" for believing in something, think about why they believe in something. The answer probably makes them feel safe and in control, and you never want to take that feeling away from someone. They could also be a victim of false belief. This is when someone believes in something so much because they are not aware that is actually false. For example, if you are told from birth that 2+1=4, this is your truth. When you get to school and someone tells you differently, you are going to feel uncomfortable, unsafe, confused, and defensive. You don't know what is right anymore. Maybe you cling on to your belief that 2+1=3, or maybe you are shown real proof and understanding that 2+1=3.
It is easier to convince someone to think differently what you have true facts and reasoning. However, when you yourself do not have an answer to a question, how can you convince someone to think differently? No one has been able to explain a tall furry creature standing on two legs walking through the woods, leaving huge foot prints; so the story of Big Foot still exists today. Research shows that people who feel socially marginalized are more likely to believe in conspiracy theories. It gives people a sense of community and safety. No one likes to feel left out or different from other people. This is why cryptozoology is still around today. People in today's world still feel left or unsafe. These are not just emotions that disappear with time. As long as people cannot explain things in their life or can form emotional attachments, cryptozoology will still be around.
